Carlsbad Caverns

Here's the Natural Entrance to Carlsbad Caverns. The trail switchbacks a mile in length, nearly 800 feet down into the earth. It's pretty cool. Unfortunately, my photos of inside the cave weren't too good! We had to hurry to get to the bottom as the only tour available yesterday was the Kings Palace tour (the basic tourist tour). After the tour, we walked around the Big Room, which was also pretty neat. Needless to say, we would have loved to take one of the more adventurous tours but did not realize that you really have to plan in advance. The smaller tours sell out (duh) during "spring break" and other times of the year as well. A word to the wise... check online first when you know the dates you are going to be in the area!

We managed, however, to get over to Guadalupe National Park last night. The car camping was pretty good, though windy! This morning we walked up the tallest mountain in Texas, Guadalupe Peak. I should have some decent photos from the hike as soon as I can get the other camera to download them on my computer. Check back soon!
